Nvidia launched its new GeForce 7800 GTX GPU late last month, but manufacturing issues forced ATI to delay the release of its new Radeon line until later this year. ATI expects to ship its next-generation Radeon graphics chips, codenamed the R520, R530 and RV515, in the third quarter of this year according to a report from technology news site DigiTimes. It's been rumored that the ATI R520 chip will feature 32-pixel pipelines. If true, that means a fully clocked R520 chip should roll over the 24-pipe GeForce 7800 GTX without a problem. However, we might not see many chips with all 32 pipes enabled until ATI and TSMC, its foundry, can improve yields. The R530 and RV515 are most likely mainstream versions with fewer pipes and lower clock speeds. "ATI also plans to introduce another flagship chip, the R580, in early 2006," according to the report.
